Ocean City Beach, Boardwalk, Inlet Open to Sparse Crowds

After Mayor Rick Meehan and the Town Council announced the reopening of the Ocean City beach, boardwalk and inlet last week, there were few people who ventured out on Saturday and Sunday.

Town officials placed signage urging residents to practice physical distancing, blocked off some benches to be conducive of distancing and Ocean City Police regularly patrolled.

The largest crowds were seen on the Boardwalk, especially at Thrasher’s Fries, which had a sizable line. On a chilly Spring weekend, the beach was relatively empty.

Mayor Rick Meehan said he hopes the reopening will serve as a test run. He told ABC News “We’re looking at this as what you might term a soft opening. We’re hoping that as the crowds begin to build up… we’ll have an opportunity to really observe what the patterns are.”
