Maryland Suspends State Prison Visitation

Maryland’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services has announced all visits to correctional facilities in the state have been suspended.

Officials say the move is being made “in order to protect our employees, inmates, and detainees and their families.” Secretary Robert Green said “We recognize the tremendous importance of visits and family contact.” He continued “But it is critical for the health and well-being of our employees and those in our custody that we protect them. This is a human event, and we need to do everything possible to ensure that families can communicate.”

The Department of Correctional Services is now working on telephone and video communication between inmates and their families.
