Delmarva Power Says Beware of Coronavirus Utility Scammers

Delmarva Power is warning it’s Delaware and Maryland customers of potential scammers targeting customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Derrick Dickens, senior vice president and Chief Customer Officer for Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power said “It is unfortunate that scammers are using the public’s concerns around health and financial uncertainty to deceive and further harm our customers.” He continued “We want to provide our customers with tools and information that can help ward off would be scammers and help put a stop to these ongoing scamming attempts.”

Among the reported scams are caller ID “spoofing” in which the scammers replicate an energy company’s phone number.

Delmarva Power urges customers to never provide social security numbers of personal information to anyone over the phone, always ask to see a company photo ID for individuals traveling door-to-door and never make a payment for services to anyone at your door.
